The Work, in Practice
Every engagement starts with a different problem. Here are a few examples of how I have approached them — and what changed as a result.
MARKET RECOGNITION
Turning strong practices into recognised ones
-
International Law Firm | Band 2 → Band 1
A leading international law firm was already ranked Band 2 by Chambers & Partners and had strong relationships with its clients. The opportunity was to ensure those relationships translated into meaningful third-party market feedback during the research process.
I treated referee management as an active part of the ranking strategy — carefully reviewing who was best placed to speak about the practice, working with partners to encourage participation, monitoring responses and following up strategically throughout the research period.
The practice subsequently progressed from Band 2 to Band 1. Your submission tells Chambers how you see your practice; your referees tell Chambers whether the market agrees.

International Law Firm | Moved Up a Band in One Research Cycle
A leading international law firm had a strong regional practice, but its Chambers ranking did not fully reflect the strength of its work. I started by reviewing five years of previous submissions alongside the firm's Chambers client report to understand where the gaps were and what might be holding back progression.
I then worked across the firm's Asia offices, speaking with local partners and BD teams to identify potential matters rather than relying only on those already known at regional level. I hand-picked the strongest evidence and rebuilt the submission around matters that addressed the gaps identified through the review.
Within one research cycle, the practice moved up a band in Chambers & Partners — demonstrating that rankings strategy starts well before the submission is written.
CAREER & PRACTICE GROWTH
Positioning for what comes next
-
Practice Head → Independent Arbitrator
After decades in international arbitration and senior practice leadership, an established practitioner was preparing to transition into independent practice as an arbitrator. The challenge was not building credibility from scratch, but ensuring that a reputation developed within established organisations could travel with her.
I worked with her to assess how her experience was perceived across different Asian markets, identify where recognition was already strong and where gaps remained, and define the jurisdictions, institutions and appointment pathways worth prioritising. From there, we developed a clearer independent arbitrator proposition and market strategy.
The result was a more deliberate foundation for her next chapter: a distinct professional identity, clearer geographic priorities and a strategy for converting an established reputation into future appointment opportunities.
-
Finance Junior Partner | Internal Positioning
Ahead of her annual performance review, a junior finance partner at an international law firm wanted to make a stronger case for her contribution and progression with key internal stakeholders.
I helped her step back from the day-to-day and identify the strongest evidence of the value she had created — from her work and relationships to her broader contribution to the business. We then structured this into a clear business case, framed around what mattered to the stakeholders making the decision.
She entered the review process with a much clearer narrative: not simply what she had done over the past year, but why it mattered and what it demonstrated about her readiness for the next stage.
PROFESSIONAL POSITIONING
Shaping how the market understands what comes next
-
Executive Profiling | Social Media Positioning
A senior professional wanted to build a stronger presence on social media without becoming a content creator or spending his own time constantly writing posts.
I worked behind the scenes as his ghostwriter and positioning adviser — identifying the subjects and perspectives he wanted to become associated with, developing his voice, and turning his ideas and experience into content that sounded recognisably like him.
The objective was never simply to post more. It was to build a consistent body of content that gradually shaped how the market understood his expertise and professional identity.
-
Corporate Lawyer → Senior In-House Leadership
A senior corporate lawyer was considering his next career move, with the goal of transitioning into an in-house leadership role. His existing profile naturally reflected his private-practice career and technical legal expertise — but not necessarily how he wanted to be understood next.
I worked with him to reposition that narrative around commercial judgement, strategic contribution and his ability to partner with business units and internal stakeholders. The positioning was then carried through his professional profile and external presence, so the market could see more than where he had been.
He subsequently transitioned into a senior regional in-house leadership role, with a professional narrative that positioned him as a business-focused strategic partner rather than solely a technical legal adviser.
NEW MARKETS & CHANNELS
Building relevance where you want to be found
-
Disputes Boutique | Regional Expansion
An established disputes boutique with a strong reputation in its home jurisdiction wanted to explore opportunities in another Asian market. The question was not simply how to become more visible, but where its existing strengths could realistically translate into new relationships and work.
I worked with the practice to assess the market through a business development lens — identifying relevant referral pathways, priority relationships, areas of opportunity and how its existing credentials should be positioned for an audience that did not necessarily know the practice as well as its home market did.
The result was a more focused approach to regional expansion: where to compete, who to build relationships with, and how to make a strong local reputation relevant in a new market.
-
AI Visibility | Generative Engine Optimisation
As generative AI increasingly influences how professionals are researched and discovered, a senior professional wanted to understand how accurately her expertise and reputation were being represented across AI-powered search and generative tools.
I conducted a multi-platform audit of her digital visibility across major generative AI tools, examining what appeared when different users searched for her, which sources and professional attributes were being surfaced, where information was inconsistent or missing, and how her existing digital footprint was being interpreted by AI.
Based on those findings, I developed an AI-friendly professional profile and digital positioning strategy designed to make her expertise, experience and market position easier for search engines and generative AI systems to find, understand and accurately represent.
